EMS2016 seen in an overall perspective
EMS2016 was the first European Emergency Medical Services Congress in Europe. The ambition was that the congress should contribute to the international exchange of experience and development of new standards for emergency medical services and pre-hospital care.
With 1.119 participants from 37 countries and the creation of the European EMS Leadership Network and the presentation of Global Alliance for Resuscitation it can be concluded that the congress was needed, relevant and exceeded expectations.
This can also be seen in the overall evaluation from the participants:
- 98.7 percent answered that the congress was well organized
- 93.3 percent answered that they would like to attend another edition of the congress
- 96.7 percent answered that they would recommend the congress to others
- 90.0 percent answered that they were satisfied with the overall composition of the program
The scientific programme
It was the goal, that the EMS2016 scientific programme would be world class, with leading profiles and highly relevant topics. More than 50 speakers from around the world spoke during EMS2016. Topics such as resuscitation, terror, the future of EMS, communication and emergency care was on the agenda.
The scientific program and interaction was rated on a scale from 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent) in the evaluation send to the participants after the congress:

Speakers
It was possible during EMS2016 to rate all speakers, chairs and workshop presenters. All were rated on a scale from 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent) in the learners feedback form. Due to difference in the number of responses for each sessions, workshops etc. it is not possible to compare the results. However, most speakers score around 4 from participants when asked about the quality of the speech. The average score for the keynote speakers range from 4.50-4.83.
Venue, catering and the social programme
Like the scientific program, the venue, catering and the social programme was rated on a scale from 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent) in the evaluation send to the participants after the congress. Except for the Emergency Management Scenario which scores a 3.6 all the social event scores from 4.3 (the welcome reception) to the Gala Dinner which scores as high as 4.8
Catering scores a 4.62, while venue and congress rooms scores a 4.58.
Focus for EMS2017
Overall the participants whom answered the evaluation form were very satisfied with EMS2016, and there is not one single thing that can be pointed out to have been a disappointment. There are off course things that can be even better for the next congress, especially we are looking more closely at the exhibition, the scale of the programme, the placement of the posters sessions, optimization of conditions for spectators to championship and the use of electronic media, such as voting systems, during sessions.
If you have not already saved the date for EMS2017 then grab you calendar and mark the 22-24 May 2017, since this is when we are going to see you all again for EMS2017 in Copenhagen.
