The European EMS Award to Tore Laerdal

13 July 2017

During EMS2017 the European Emergency Medical Services Award was given for the first time.

The award is given by the European EMS Leadership Network to exceptional individuals whom through dialogue, innovation, involvement and a creative approach are supporting the notion that it takes a system to save a life.

Tore Laerdal was the first to receive the award.

Tore Laerdal receives the first European EMS Award for his personal and exceptional dedication and commitment to save lives and to improve emergency care by supporting a scientific approach to care, by developing education and by supporting implementation internationally, including the EMS Leadership Network. Tore Laerdal continues the tradition supporting the international Utstein meetings and recently he was a key figure in establishing the Global Resuscitation Alliance.

Tore Laerdal is executive director of the prestigious Laerdal Foundation for Acute Medicine. Tore Laerdal has extended the impact of the Foundations work on resuscitation science, education and implementation.

Tore Laerdal is known as a modest, unassuming man. He is a true listener, humble, sensitive and generous, always trying to understand the circumstance, the needs of other people and also the different worlds. From the world of high profile medical science in international universities to the needs of a new born babies in low resource countries. Tore Laerdal always has a genuine interest in and cares for those in need of emergency care and is driven by his desire to help people by providing education and by improving systems.

Tore Laerdal is a true inspiration when it comes to commitment, dedication and personal engagement in constantly trying to improve emergency care. This is reflected in his engagement and support to ideas, projects and research, which has fostered new solutions.

Tore Laerdal is an exceptional person who has had, and still has, a huge impact on survival and emergency care through his commitment, dedication and support. Tore Laerdal has truly deserved to be the first recipient of the European EMS Award.

On behalf of the European EMS Leadership Network
