The COVID-19 outbreak across the world continues to have a great impact on our lives, causing various restrictions for our social interaction and travel. EMS is and has been in the front fighting the coronavirus.
In Glasgow, the convention center SEC was turned into an emergency hospital until the Summer of 2021, instead of hosting conferences and concerts.
The European Leadership Network has postponed the European Emergency Medical Services Congress in 2020 and 2021.
Access to safe and effective vaccines is critical to ending the COVID-19 pandemic. The European EMS Leadership Network is glad to see vaccines being distributed across the world.
Therefore, we are excited to announce that the European Emergency Medical Services Congress 2022 will be held in Glasgow 4-6 May 2022.
Why is the Congress postponed?
The EMS Leadership Network has been closely monitoring updates and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as the Scottish Government. We have also been actively following travel advisories and restrictions being placed on health care providers and hospitals and institutions globally. The health, safety and well-being of our participants, staff, exhibitors, faculty, volunteers and other stakeholders is of paramount importance.
With an increasing number of EMS professionals at the front lines of preparing and reacting to the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide and the Convention Center SEC being turned into an emergency hospital, instead of hosting conferences and concerts, it is in the best interest of everyone to postpone the congress.
Where & when will EMS2022 be held?
EMS2022 will take place in Glasgow, Scotland 4 – 6 May 2022, at SEC Centre, Exhibition Way, Glasgow.
Will my visa still be valid for the new dates?
Please check the validity dates on your VISA. Unfortunately, you may have to apply for a new VISA.
Is my registration valid for the rescheduled dates?
All registrations will automatically be transferred to the new dates.
I am unable to attend the Congress on the new dates; can I transfer my registration to a colleague?
Yes, registrations can be transferred to a colleague or other attendee free of charge. Please reach out to for assistance or simply log in to your existing registration and make the name change directly in the registration system.
I am unable to attend the Congress on the new dates; can I get a refund?
If you cannot attend the congress on 4–6 May 2022 and therefore wish to cancel your registration, we will refund you the registration fee less a EUR 50 administration fee (covering the expenses for administration of the refunds.) Please email for a refund of your paid registration fee. Refunds will be made within 4-6 weeks of receiving the request.
Credit card refunds will be made to the credit card used for the original payment. For bank transfer refunds, remember to send your bank details including SWIFT and IBAN number with your refund request.
For how long is it possible to have my registration refunded due to the postponement of EMS2021?
For refunds due to the postponement of EMS2021, you must inform no later than 1 October 2021. After this date, the updated cancellation policy will apply, and a cancellation fee of EUR 100 will be deducted if you cancel your registration.
What is the updated cancellation policy?
You may cancel and receive a refund of your congress fee less a cancellation fee of 100 EUR if the cancellation is received no later than 1 December 2021. Cancellation of registration must be notified in writing to the registration office at . Please note that payment fees will not be refunded.
Can I be refunded in my ‘own’ currency?
No, refunds will be made in the currency used for the original payment.
My employer funded my registration fee, but I paid my own Social Dinner with a credit card. Can I have separate refunds?

I am not sure if I can attend the Congress on the new dates just yet. What should I do?
If you are unsure which the best option for you, you can choose to transfer your registration now, but will still have the option of cancelling and receiving a refund on your delegate fee less a cancellation fee of EUR 100 up until 1 December 2021.
Will there be a new early bird registration date?
Early bird registration for EMS2022 is 4 February 2022.
I already paid the standard rate for my registration which I would like to transfer to the rescheduled congress. Can I get a refund from the difference between my already paid fee and the early bird rate?

Will the Congress cover cost for flights and hotel made by my employer or myself?
Unfortunately, the Congress cannot refund individual travel costs. Please contact your airline and hotel directly regarding booking cancellations or rescheduling. If you hold a travel insurance, please contact your provider for information and next steps.
I’m holding a non-refundable and non-changeable flight ticket and/or hotel reservation (booked directly through the homepage of the airline and/or hotel or through an OTA (hotel.com, expidia.com or similar). Neither the hotel, airline, OTA nor the insurance company will accept to reimburse the costs as the Congress is postponed and not cancelled. What should I do?
The Congress cannot be held responsible for financial engagements taken by third parties. However, the Congress can provide an official letter of postponement to support your refund claim towards the third party.
EXHIBITION AND SPONSORSHIP
My company is unable to attend as a sponsor/exhibitor the Congress on the new dates; can I get a refund?
If you cannot attend the congress on the new dates and therefore wish to cancel your attendance as a sponsor/exhibitor, we will refund you the full amount less any associated payment fees. Please email for a refund of your paid fee. You will be refunded the full amount minus EUR 50 in administration fee. Refunds will be made within 4-6 weeks of receiving the request.

For how long it is possible to have my sponsorship/exhibition booking refunded due to the postponement of EMS2021?
For refunds due to the postponement of EMS2021, you must inform no later than 1 February 2021. You will be refunded the full amount minus EUR 50 in administration fee.
My company have already ordered expo equipment via the official expo partner, GES, can it be cancelled, amended or will my order be on hold until next year?
As the event is postponed until 2022, all exhibitor orders will be cancelled and fully refunded. If you still require the order you will need to place this again. GES is working on getting the web shop created and the order forms updated.
My company have arranged shipping with DB Schenker, can it be cancelled, amended or will my order be on hold until next year?
All exhibitor orders for the new dates will be rearranged.
We have ordered expo materials and arranged shipping from an external supplier. What should I do?
The Congress cannot be held responsible for financial engagements taken by third parties. Please send your change request directly to the third party for clarification.

Will my abstract still be accepted to present on the rescheduled Congress dates?
For the EMS2022 there will be held an entirely new abstract process. Therefore, the abstracts accepted for the EMS2020 will unfortunately not automatically be offered the opportunity to present at the EMS2022. A new call for abstracts will be announced 1 July 2021.
Will new abstract submissions be accepted for the rescheduled Congress?
We will open for new abstract submissions for the rescheduled Congress in the new year (2021). More information including a deadline for new submissions will follow as soon as available.
Will the Congress cover production costs related to already produced posters?
Unfortunately, the Congress cannot cover the production costs of posters printed before the time of postponement.
Are confirmed EMS2020 Championship teams automatically qualified for the postponed Congress?
No, unfortunately. Due to the postponement, new teams will be qualified to compete in the Championship.
If you have been accepted as a volunteer at the EMS2020/2021 you will NOT automatically be a volunteer for the EMS2022 (unless otherwise arranged with the congress organisers). Unfortunately, we will not be able to refund any travel arrangements you have made.
We will open for a new volunteer submission for EMS2022 1 July 2021.
I have been granted media accreditation for EMS2020. Will this still apply for the rescheduled Congress?
Yes, media accreditations for the Congress will be valid for the rescheduled dates.
I have been granted a media accreditation for EMS2020 but is unable to attend the new dates. Do I have to do anything?
