EMS Europe is pleased to announce that it has joined the WHO Acute Care Action Network (ACAN). Membership of the network was approved this month (September 2026) and strengthens EMS Europe’s existing relationship with the WHO.
Earlier this year EMS President Dr. Freddy Lippert joined the ACAN Network for its annual meeting, held in Geneva. The convening of the network brought together over 100 representatives of its participant organizations from across the globe. The meeting “marked a key milestone in ACAN’s work to advance integrated emergency, critical and operative (ECO) care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in line with Resolution WHA76.2. The day reviewed progress against ACAN priorities, introduced the network’s new visual identity and governance arrangements, explored the positioning of acute care within the World Rehabilitation Alliance’s broader framework, and dedicated substantial time to structured small group work on the Global Strategy for Integrated Emergency, Critical and Operative care, 2026–2035, and on the operational future of the network.”
The WHO Acute Care Action Network (ACAN) is a global alliance of key stakeholders committed to saving millions of lives by advancing acute care through collaboration. The WHO says “ACAN participant organizations work across primary, emergency, critical and operative care and have a shared objective of strengthening acute care delivery in low- and middle-income countries through dissemination, implementation and evaluation of WHO tools and resources.” You can learn more about the ACAN Network and it’s objectives here.
